“The Neighbourhood Vs The Squirrels” is a comedy written by Ryan Armstrong. It’s about neighbours, pesky squirrels, old busy-bodies, wanna-be reporters and nefarious criminals.
The backdrop for this crazy romp is two houses side-by-side in a suburban neighbourhood. Both infamous for different reasons.
Mr Wilbur is raging an on-going war with a family of squirrels who have taken up residency in the old tree outside his run-down house… a house he has lived in since forever.
Angie who is in her early 20’s, lives in the neat two-storey house next door to Mr Wilbur. She’s just inherited the house from her poor deceased Uncle Donnie who, rumour has it, in his younger days was an Italian mobster.
Steve, who is also in his early 20’s, is a Happy-Go-Lucky-Mr-Nice kind of guy and has lived down the road from Mr Wilbur since he was a young boy. Lately, he’s been visiting Mr Wilbur a little more than usual, some say he’s sweet on Mr Wilbur’s new neighbour.
Together, Angie and Steve are on a mission to crack Uncle Donnie’s safe… The same safe Angie discovered while exploring the basement of her new house.
Frank and Rooster are our two nefarious gangsters. Frank is the exasperated mastermind and Rooster, well let’s just say that, at best, Rooster could be called bumbling… Somehow they’ve found out that Angie’s new house was once owned by Donnie “The Nose” Moretti and they are hell-bent on breaking into the house and finding Uncle Donnie’s stash of jewels.
Lesley and Stella are two college kids completing a degree in journalism and they’ve decided that the only scoop to be got in their boring neighbourhood is to use their impressive (or not so impressive) ninja-like skills to break into Donnie’s basement and investigate. After all, that’s where mobsters keep the dead bodies right?
And as for the two old busy-bodies? Well, suffice it to say that they are producing their finest work to date, in their attempt to have Mr Wilbur evicted from the neighbourhood – or, at the very least, ordered to clean up his mess! After all, they don’t want riff-raff reducing the value of their neighbourhood.
