Is it ever acceptable to expect sex in a long term relationship? AIBU? (Am I Being Unreasonable) uses dark comedy to explore this sensitive question.  AIBU? examines how underdeveloped most people’s emotional intelligence is. A woman posts on mumsnet.com to ask if she is being unreasonable to snap at her husband who constantly pesters her for sex. Her husband appears as an invisible character to prevent the audience deciding too soon. Two blog posters, Stillsore and Nineversions, use the online vocabulary of mumsnet.com such as LTB (Leave The Bastard) to offer conflicting advice. After the woman has shared her many pre-marriage dealbreakers with the audience, her invisible husband refers her to a contract she willingly signed before they married. Her dealbreakers and his contract make it harder to establish with which of the two we should side. The audience is reminded of couples’ ridiculously unrealistic expectations about a future together and the fact that so many people actually commit to long term coupledom with very little serious thought. Through Stillsore and Nineversions we also see how polarised so many internet opinions are as we gradually learn why these two are so invested in the problem of the OP (Original Poster) whom they will never know. The woman’s dilemma is ultimately resolved in a highly original and blackly comic way thanks to the dishwasher.
